The HR sector of the world’s workforce has experienced great changes over the years. Several top HR trends have been instrumental to the revolutionalisation of HR in today’s corporate world. However in this article, we would be focusing only on the top HR trends in 2021 and how they are going to impact your company.

Not surprisingly, the rise of AI has greatly influenced the corporate workforce. Also, more Tech. companies are developing applications and softwares which can be used to work effectively remotely.

These applications and softwares help to simplify workflow and enable users to get work done faster.

Another great factor that influenced HR is the year 2020 and all the major issues it brought for the whole world. For instance, the global pandemic in 2020 altered the work-life of millions and redefined companies’ work policies. There also was an increased need for diversity in the workplace and HR in companies needed to make adjustments to accommodate these changes.

Currently, 2020 still influences HR and will continue to do so through trends that have been carried into 2021. These trends are evolving and your company needs to be aware of them in order to stay afloat in the ever competitive corporate world.

What your company’s HR should look out for 2021

2020 has taught the world the need for flexibility especially in the workplace. One of such lessons is the need for companies to develop a digital transformation strategy. This strategy will tackle people-centric issues online and offline.

Furthermore, in order to maintain a competitive company, you need to regularly update your HR practices. Check out these trends and how to apply them to your workplace.

Virtual Work

Before the latest pandemic, remote-work was not widely accepted by many companies. Coronavirus changed all that and influenced the acceptance of working from home as well as the outsourcing economy.

Some companies like Twitter have made these changes permanent. Twitter employees who do not need to work at the office now get to work from home. Another of such companies that implemented this model is Microsoft. This is because these companies are aware that things can’t be the same again, not even when the world returns to the pre-coronavirus phase.

Increased use of digital tools

Given the shift to a workplace that’s more virtual and less physical from an office, another trend we expect to see is an increased use of  “digital tools”. These digital tools include applications that are needed to enable collaboration and communication among companies’ workforce. So, more companies are likely to invest in technology to boost digital workflow.

The challenge however that most companies face is establishing digital HR. That is, a system where social, mobile, analytics and cloud-based technologies are used to enable HR function more efficiently.

Establishment and management of remote teams

The creation of virtual teams that work remotely is a huge issue in 2021. There is the need to combine people and technology in the workplace to produce better outcomes. Companies with virtual teams need to enable a capable workforce through upskilling, reskilling and mobility.

To do this, HR needs to establish a form of structure for their virtual teams. This structure will answer the questions of: team communication, training, collaboration and performance evaluation of virtual teams.

In addition, companies would need to implement these structures with technology in order to achieve training interventions, recruitment and overall workflow.

Increase in the focus on employee experience (EX)

Employee experience (EX) has become one of the most important key initiatives among HR leaders in 2020. Surveys have shown that when companies focus on employee experience, it boosts productivity and increases employee loyalty.

This is because there is the need to provide personalised solutions and information for the workforce in a sustainable way. Moreso, there is no better way for companies to improve the employee’s experience in uncertain times than to give employees a voice.

In addition, more HRs are discovering that the gathering of feedback from employees and the implementation of these feedback improves EX. This is because it makes employees feel that their opinions matter to the company they work for. In return, this makes them align more with the company’s visions and missions.

Increasing support for workers’ mental health

Currently, mental health is getting more attention in the corporate space. The pandemic took a toll on people emotionally and physically. Many have lost their lives and loved ones’. Thus, well-being of workers is becoming more of a priority for companies.

Companies are increasingly focusing on how to improve the mental health of their workers in such uncertain times as this. Some are beginning to tackle this through the provision of counselors and a reward program for workers. This is because a worker has to be healthy in every sense in order for him/her to be productive.

In conclusion, 2020 was a year of drastic changes and 2021 is still unraveling. Yet, the HR trends of 2020 are likely to continue to influence the workspace. So, your company would need to drive success by implementing these HR trends in its work processes.
